Common Rotary Drilling Rig Faults And Troubleshooting Methods

The lifespan of a rotary drilling rig depends not only on its inherent quality but also on its routine maintenance. Below, we analyze common rotary drilling rig malfunctions and their solutions to provide users with some reference. We hope this information will be helpful. Common Rotary Drilling Rig Malfunctions: (1) Broken drill rod (2) Impactor not working (3) Drill stuck (4) Chisel bit fragments, chipped corners, and broken rods, etc.

Common Malfunctions and Solutions

Broken Drill Rod

The most common cause is friction between the drill rod and the borehole wall, causing the drill rod wall thickness to decrease and its strength to weaken. Another cause is a bent drill rod, which is also prone to breakage. Rotary Drilling Rig Malfunction Solutions: When adding drill rods, pay attention to inspection. Remove any drill rods that are excessively worn or bent and stop using them.

Impact Device Not Working

Common causes include: 1. Broken cutting blades; 2. Damaged drill bit tail, debris entering the cylinder and jamming the hammer; 3. Vent blocked by rock powder; 4. Excessive water accumulation in the hole during drilling, resulting in high venting resistance and difficulty in starting the impact device.

Troubleshooting: If the impact device is not working, first check for cause 4. To check, raise the impact device a short distance to reduce venting resistance and blow out some water, then slowly push it to the bottom of the hole. If this method fails, then the first three causes are likely the problem, and the impact device needs to be removed for cleaning or parts replaced.

Drill Bit Jammed

Causes: Besides complex geological formations causing the drill bit to jam during normal drilling, the following are also possible causes. 1. Broken drill bit wing; 2. New drill bit is larger in diameter than the original; 3. Machine displacement or drill bit deviation in the hole during drilling; 4. Rocks falling from the hole wall or opening during drilling, or encountering large fissures or karst caves; 5. Dust is difficult to remove in areas with mud and rocks; 6. Operational negligence, failure to blow away rock dust or lift the drill bit during prolonged drilling stoppages, causing the impactor to be buried by rock dust;

Troubleshooting Method: With the current strength of the drill bit, broken wing is basically eliminated. In special circumstances, a seamless pipe with a diameter similar to the hole diameter, filled with grease, asphalt, etc., can be connected to the drill rod and inserted into the bottom of the hole to remove the broken wing. Before retrieval, the rock dust at the bottom of the hole should be blown away. In severe cases where the drill bit cannot be lifted or lowered, and the impactor is silent, only external torque or auxiliary tools can be applied to help lift and rotate the drill bit. Then, while supplying air, lift the drill bit until the problem is resolved. When restarting drilling, first apply a small amount of pressure, then gradually increase the thrust until the normal working pressure is reached.#small pile driver#

Drill Bit Fragments, Chips, and Column Drops

If the drill rod vibrates, it may be due to falling rocks through rock formations or falling alloy columns. Visually, if an alloy column has fallen, there will be almost no progress, and the drill rod vibration will be rhythmic. If an alloy column is confirmed, it can be blown out using a powerful air blower. If the alloy column cannot be blown out, it can be retrieved using methods for removing broken blades from the drill bit. If there is a fault or fracture zone in the hole, the alloy column can be forced into the hole wall in these areas without removal; a new drill bit can be installed, and drilling can continue intermittently.

Precautions for using the blower motor:

1. Ensure lubrication before operation;

2. The connection between the blower motor and the hose must be secure;

3. Before connecting the blower motor and the hose, carefully clean the hose. You can open the air valve on the pipeline for a few seconds to blow the hose clean with compressed air before connecting;

4. If the blower motor is found to be operating abnormally, stop working and carry out maintenance. Do not disassemble or reassemble the motor on the work surface.#small pile driver#
