How To Handle Common Malfunctions Of Rotary Drilling Rigs?

The service life of a rotary drilling rig is not only related to its quality. While the rotary drilling rigs produced by Shandong Kaiao Engineering Machinery Co., Ltd. are reliable, improper maintenance during daily use can shorten their service life. Below, technical personnel from Kaiao Heavy Industry will share common rotary drilling rig malfunctions and their solutions, hoping to provide some assistance.remote control drilling machine

First, let's discuss common rotary drilling rig malfunctions: (1) The impactor is silent; (2) The drill rod is short; (3) The drill is stuck; (4) The drill bit is broken, with chipped corners and broken columns, etc.

After discussing the above malfunctions, we will explain the solutions for each malfunction:

(1) The impactor is silent.

The following four are common: 1. The cutting blades are broken; 2. The drill bit tail is damaged, and debris enters the cylinder and jams the hammer; 3. The vent is blocked by rock powder; 4. When drilling downwards, too much water accumulates in the hole, resulting in excessive venting resistance and making it difficult for the impactor to start. Troubleshooting methods: If the impactor is not making a sound, first check according to the fourth cause. The method is to raise the impactor a certain distance to reduce the exhaust resistance, blow out some water, and then slowly push it to the bottom of the hole. If this method does not work, then the first three causes can be identified, and the impactor needs to be removed for cleaning or parts replaced.remote drill

(2) Broken drill rod
The most common cause is friction between the drill rod and the hole wall, which reduces the thickness of the drill rod wall and weakens its strength. Another cause is that the drill rod is bent, which is also prone to breakage. Troubleshooting methods for rotary drilling rigs: When adding drill rods, pay attention to inspection. Select drill rods that are excessively worn or bent and stop using them.

(3) Stuck drill
Causes: In addition to encountering complex strata that can cause the machine to get stuck during normal drilling, there are the following other causes. 1. Broken drill bit wing; 2. New drill bit is larger in diameter than the original; 3. Machine displacement or drill bit deviation in the hole during drilling; 4. Rocks falling from the hole wall or opening during drilling, or encountering large fissures or karst caves; 5. Dust is difficult to remove in areas with mud and rocks; 6. Operational negligence, such as failure to blow away rock dust or lift the drill bit during prolonged drilling stoppages, resulting in the impactor being buried by rock dust. Troubleshooting methods for rotary drilling rigs: With the current strength of drill bits, broken wing wing wing is largely eliminated. In special cases, a seamless pipe with a diameter similar to the hole diameter, filled with grease or asphalt, can be connected to the drill rod and inserted into the bottom of the hole to remove the broken wing wing. Before retrieval, the rock dust at the bottom of the hole should be blown away. In more severe cases, the drill bit cannot be lifted or lowered, and the impactor is silent. In this case, external torque or auxiliary tools must be applied to help lift and rotate the drill bit. Then, air should be supplied while lifting the drill bit until the problem is resolved. When re-drilling, apply slight pressure first, then gradually increase the thrust until the normal working pressure is reached.

(4) Drill bit fragments, chipped corners, and broken columns: If the drill rod vibrates, it may be due to falling rocks through the transition zone of rock strata or falling alloy columns. Visually, if an alloy column has fallen, there will be almost no progress, and the drill rod vibration will be rhythmic. When an alloy column is confirmed to have fallen, it can be blown out using a strong air blower. If the alloy column cannot be blown out, it can be removed using the method for handling broken blades on the drill bit. If there is a fault or fracture zone in the hole, the alloy column can be forced into the hole wall in these areas without removing it. A new drill bit can be installed, and drilling can continue intermittently.

Precautions for using the pneumatic motor:

1. Before connecting the pneumatic motor to the hose, the hose should be carefully cleaned. The air valve can be opened for several seconds to blow the hose clean with compressed air before connecting.

2. If the pneumatic motor is found to be malfunctioning, work should be stopped, and repairs should be carried out. Disassembly or major disassembly at the working face is strictly prohibited. 3. The connection between the air motor and the hose must be secure;

4. Lubrication must be ensured before operation; Today, we explained common malfunctions and troubleshooting methods for rotary drilling rigs. We hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions about rotary drilling rigs, please feel free to contact us.remote drill
