Maintenance And Upkeep Measures For Rotary Drilling Rig Power Heads

Rotary drilling rigs are construction machines suitable for hole-forming operations in building foundation engineering. They are mainly suitable for construction in soil layers such as sand, cohesive soil, and silty soil, and are widely used in various foundation constructions such as cast-in-place piles, continuous walls, and foundation reinforcement.#geotechnical drilling equipment#

Rotary Drilling Rig Power Head Maintenance Measures: (1) Replace the power head lubricating oil. (2) Inspect and replace the power head spline gear oil. First, let's discuss the method for replacing the power head lubricating oil, and then the steps for inspecting and replacing the power head spline gear oil. Hopefully, this will be helpful to users.

Rotary Drilling Rig Power Head Maintenance Measures - Replacing the Power Head Lubricating Oil:

1. Remove the inspection cover located under the power head drive unit.

2. Remove the drain pipe from the retainer on the upper frame, with the hose end facing the container.

3. Use a universal joint with a sleeve extension to loosen the drain valve. Drain the oil into a suitable container.

4. Tighten the drain valve. 5. Hang the drain hose on the mounting bracket. Ensure the hose end is facing upwards.

6. Remove the dipstick to change the lubricating oil in the rotary drilling rig's power head.

7. Add the required amount of oil through the dipstick.

8. Maintain the oil level between the top of the dipstick and the mark on the dipstick.

Rotary Drilling Rig Power Head Maintenance Measures – Checking and Changing the Power Head Spline Gear Oil

1. Regularly check the lubricating oil level in the gearbox through the transparent glass of the gearbox sight glass. Ensure the oil level is not lower than two-thirds of the vertical height of the sight glass. (The bearings in the gearbox are lubricated by oil slinging; if the oil level is too low, the bearings will not be properly lubricated, reducing the equipment's service life.)

2. When changing the gear oil, first turn the power head gear oil drain plug to the lowest position for easy operation and draining of the oil.

3. Remove the drain plug and oil level plug to drain the power head gear oil into a suitable container. During the draining process, the power head gear can be slowly rotated to facilitate oil drainage and removal of contaminants. However, safety should be ensured during this process, and personnel should stay away from the area while the gear is rotating.#geotechnical drilling equipment#

4. Inspect the drain plug and seals for damage. Replace any parts with new ones if there is significant wear or damage.

5. After the oil has drained completely, replace the drain plug.

6. Unscrew the hydraulic hose connector at the top of the power head that connects to the accumulator, ensuring the connector is clean. Add lubricating oil (No. 220 heavy-duty industrial gear oil) into the gearbox through this connector hole, observing the oil level through the sight glass. Fill the oil to two-thirds full, but do not overfill. Overfilling will cause leakage from the power head seal, allowing hydraulic oil or water to enter the gearbox, potentially contaminating it.

7. After completing the above steps, tighten the hose connector removed in step 5 and replace the oil level plug. Refer to the appendix for the appropriate tightening torque.

8. Start the engine and let the power head gear rotate a few times.

9. Stop the engine and check that the oil level is above two-thirds of the height of the sight glass.

These are the maintenance measures for the rotary drilling rig's power head. Have you understood them, operators?#geotechnical drilling equipment#
