The Role and Types of Drill Rods in Rotary Drilling Rigs
Drill rods are wear parts and one of the six key components of a drilling rig (main winding, power head, drill rod, hoist, wire rope, and drilling tools). They are also frequently prone to failure. Drill rods bear the output torque and pressure of the drilling rig, withstand the inertial impact of improper operation, and endure the severe vibrations from drilling in harsh geological conditions.#drills design#

1. Drill pipe function: To transmit torque and applied pressure to the drilling tool.#drills design#
2. Drill pipe types: Friction type (telescopic): Transmits applied pressure through frictional resistance generated by torque load; Mechanical lock type (telescopic): Transmits applied pressure through mechanical locking points.
3. Drill pipe selection: For drills with an ultimate bearing capacity exceeding 500 kPa, mechanical lock drill pipes should be considered. For drilling depths exceeding 80 meters, only friction drill pipes (friction drill pipes have one more section than mechanical lock drill pipes) can be used.
