Troubleshooting Methods For Heating System Malfunctions in Rotary Drilling Rigs

1. Heater Radiator Clogged#drill with hammer#

The heating system of a small rotary drilling rig is similar to its cooling system. High-temperature antifreeze from the engine passes through pipes to the heater core and back to the engine. Heat is then transferred from the heater core to the cab via a fan and other pipes. However, rotary drilling rigs often operate in harsh environments with heavy dust. If the heater core is not cleaned regularly, it is very likely to become clogged. In this case, the airflow from the vents in the cab will be insufficient to generate enough heat.

In addition, the heater core may also become internally clogged, especially if the engine is not using the correct amount of antifreeze. A clogged heater core will result in consistently cold air from the vents. In this case, the heater hoses and pipes need to be checked.

2. Thermostat Malfunction

Some may ask, what does the thermostat, which controls the coolant circulation in the engine, have to do with the heater? That's not entirely wrong. A thermostat malfunction isn't directly related to the heater system's functionality, but if the thermostat is constantly open, the coolant will always be in a large circulation state. If the outside temperature is low, the coolant temperature may remain low, resulting in insufficient warmth from the blower.

3. Heater Hose Switch Not Open#drill with hammer#

This is an easily overlooked problem. There are usually mechanical valves at the connection points between the heater core inlet and outlet hoses and the engine. In summer, some owners tend to close these valves. If the driver changes or the equipment is transferred, these valves may be forgotten when the heater is needed in winter. In this case, there will be no heater in the cabin.

In winter, if you find there's no heater, first check this valve and feel the hoses to see if they are warm.

4. Insufficient Antifreeze

Although checking the antifreeze is part of the daily pre-operation check for rotary pile drivers, few operators actually check the expansion tank level daily. This is because there's a temperature gauge in the cab, and as long as the water temperature is within the normal range, it's easy to overlook the antifreeze check.

When antifreeze is insufficient, its circulation route changes. It will first circulate within the engine to ensure engine cooling. If the antifreeze is too low, the amount circulating in the heater core will decrease, resulting in low or no heater in the cab.

5. Blower and Electrical Faults

If there's no airflow when the blower vents are opened, this problem is generally caused by the electrical system.

First, check if the blower fuse is blown. Then, check the wiring and motor for faults. Additionally, a faulty duct damper motor can also cause no airflow from the vents, in which case the duct is closed, preventing warm air from entering the cab. Some rotary drilling rigs still have separate control knobs for the air conditioning vents, which also have the function of opening and closing the vents. When troubleshooting this type of fault, remember to open all the vents first.#drill with hammer#
