Analysis Of Key Components And Safety Usage Guidelines For Rotary Drilling Rigs

The core secrets of rotary drilling rigs: the drill rod determines efficiency, the power head controls torque, and safety details are a matter of life and death. From internal friction type to automatic locking drill rods, they handle both soft and hard strata; the hydraulically driven power head adapts to multiple working conditions; and the winch system precisely controls lifting and lowering. Before operation, underground hazards are checked; proper protective gear is worn; and when stopping, the anti-rotation device is locked-behind efficient construction lies the precise coordination of every component and strict operating procedures.#concrete pile driver#

Rotary drilling rigs, indispensable machines in the construction of bored piles, are widely used in almost every engineering project. However, do you truly understand the key components and safe operation of this equipment we use daily? Next, we will explore the main components of a rotary drilling rig and the safety precautions to take during its use.#concrete pile driver#

1. Key Components of a Rotary Drilling Rig

The drill rod, as the core component of a rotary drilling rig, is divided into two types: internal friction type with external pressure telescopic drill rod and automatic internal locking interlocking type with external pressure telescopic drill rod. The former exhibits high efficiency when drilling in soft soil, while the latter, through its locking design, enhances the downward pressure applied by the power head to the drill rod and further transmitted to the drill bit, making it particularly suitable for drilling in hard rock formations, but with relatively higher operational difficulty. To improve operational efficiency, a rotary drilling rig is usually equipped with two sets of different types of drill rods. In addition, rotary drilling rigs come in a wide variety of drill bits, including long spiral and large-diameter short spiral drill bits, rotary drill buckets, sand scooping buckets, cylindrical drill buckets, underreaming drill bits, and core drill bits, each suitable for different working conditions.

Introduction To The Performance And Functions Of Rotary Drilling Rigs

The power head, as the core component of the drilling rig, is primarily responsible for outputting torque. It is meticulously constructed from a variable displacement hydraulic motor, a planetary reducer, a power box, and a series of auxiliary components. Its working principle lies in the fact that the high-pressure oil flow provided by the hydraulic pump drives the hydraulic motor, thereby outputting the necessary torque. Through the synergistic action of the planetary reducer and the power box, the torque is further reduced and enhanced. It is worth mentioning that the power head not only has the function of low-speed drilling and high-speed reverse soil dumping, but its drilling speed is usually set with multiple gears, thus flexibly adapting to various working conditions.

The winch plays a crucial role in the rotary drilling rig, mainly consisting of a main winch and an auxiliary winch. The main winch is designed specifically for lifting and lowering the drill rod, while the auxiliary winch is used to assist in other tasks. During operation, the main valve is responsible for supplying the necessary hydraulic oil to the winch hydraulic motor. By switching the main valve, the rotation direction of the winch hydraulic motor is changed, thereby achieving control over the raising and lowering of the drill rod and drill string. The main winch, as the core component of the drilling rig, functions to raise or lower the drill rod. This action has a profound impact on drilling efficiency, drilling safety, and the service life of the wire rope.

The core function of the pressurization device is to apply the necessary pressure to the power head, thereby ensuring that the drill rod, drill bit, and drill teeth work together to achieve efficient cutting, crushing, or grinding effects. There are generally two pressurization methods: hydraulic cylinder pressurization and winch pressurization.

In the hydraulic cylinder pressurization method, the pressurization cylinder is securely mounted on the mast, and its piston is connected to the power head carriage. When high-pressure oil is injected into the rodless chamber of the cylinder by the drilling rig's auxiliary hydraulic pump, the cylinder piston moves, thus applying pressure to the power head. The advantage of this method is its simple structure and convenient maintenance.

The winch pressurization method, on the other hand, involves equipping the mast with a winch assembly. This method can achieve greater pressurization pressure through a moving pulley, and is particularly suitable for long spiral drilling methods.

Rotary drilling rigs have various chassis types, including dedicated chassis, tracked hydraulic excavator chassis, tracked crane chassis, walking chassis, and truck chassis. Among them, tracked dedicated chassis are widely favored for their compact structure, convenient transportation, and aesthetically pleasing appearance, despite their relatively high cost. Currently, most rotary drilling rigs on the market use this type of dedicated chassis. The chassis has numerous components, including four wheels and one track: track rollers, drive sprockets, idler wheels, and tow rollers, as well as tracks. These chassis components ensure the stability of the equipment.

Before commencing any maintenance, upkeep, or repair work on the rotary drilling rig, ensure all safety precautions are in place to alert operators. Ensure all protective equipment on the rig, such as hoods, covers, and guards, is properly installed and secured. Before operation, locate any underground high-voltage lines and cables to avoid contact with the machine and prevent electric shock.

◇ Safety Precautions During Operation Before operation, familiarize yourself with the equipment's dimensions and the surrounding environment to maintain an appropriate distance between the equipment and surrounding fences or obstacles, ensuring safe operation. Do not wear loose, thin clothing or jewelry that could snag control handles or other machine parts to prevent accidents. Wear a safety helmet, safety glasses, and other necessary protective equipment as required by the work to ensure your safety.

If You Don't Know Much About Rotary Drilling Rigs, How Can You Investigate And Purchase A Small Rotary Drilling Rig?

Strictly adhere to safety procedures during equipment maintenance to ensure the personal safety of operators. The rotary drilling rig is equipped with anti-rotation locking pins to prevent accidental rotation of the slewing platform during transport. Before loading, ensure the locking pins are correctly inserted and locked in the slot to ensure safe transport. When not in use, the rotary drilling rig should be parked on a flat, level surface, and all controllers should be in the "stop" position to ensure the equipment is in a safe condition.#concrete pile driver#
